Butterfly valve is basically a pipeline accessory that is either used to regulate the process fluid or to isolate the system from the process fluid.

The butterfly valves are used in power plants ( Thermal/Nuclear/ Gas based and Hydropower); pumping, transmission and treatment of water; utility plants in various process industries, refinery and petrochemical industries etc.

Though primarily used for isolation purposes, butterfly valves can also be used for control duty.

Brief history of valve :

The use of valves to regulate the flow of water dates back to Indus valley civilisation (1700 to 1800 BC)
Major valve design began during the era of industrial revolution and with the use and development of steam engine (1700 AD)
Modern butterfly valve was first invented by Carl Benz in 1893 to regulate the flow of gasoline in the carburetor.
Early 1920’s saw the emergence of hydropower technology and many companies developed valves and conducted model tests. 1950 onwards butterfly valves were extensively used in hydropower plants and resilient seated butterly valves replaced sluice gate valves for the isolation of water pipelines.

FOURESS Butterfly Valves are mechanically superior, structurally sound, of fool-proof design, easy to operate and totally reliable.
 A streamlined disc profile provides smooth flow and ensures low pressure drop. Disc designed for strength and deflection eliminates possibility of flutter.
Single piece insitu replaceable seals in resilient rubber. This in conjunction with SS seat ring provides drop tight sealing. Seat ring is electrically insulated from the body to resist galvanic corrosion. As an option, metal seated valves are also available for high temperature application and for fluids containing foreign particles.
Static shaft seal in ‘O’ ring / SCN ring construction. Stuffing box design is also available on request.
Clamping ring is segmental form or in one piece. Segments facilitate uniform seal seating and local adjustments.
Thrust pad allows vertical shaft orientation. It also acts as centralizing device for shaft disc assembly.
Drive shafts generously designed for transmitting maximum operating output torque.
Self-lubricating bearings capable of withstanding hydrostatic disc load and designed specially for edge loading characteristics.
Designed in such a way that the valve is suitable for both horizontal as well as vertical installation.
